En la condición de capital del principal estado productor de rocas ornamentales brasileñas e importante puerto de comercio marítimo, la ciudad de Vitória asume con aliento y responsabilidad su vocación de polo exportador de mármol y de granito producidos en Brasil.
En 1989, se celebró por primera vez la Feria Internacional del Mármol y del Granito  en Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. Desde 2003, como forma de ampliar dicha iniciativa pionera, la feria también se pasó a celebrar en Vitória y, por lo tanto, pasó a atraer más visitantes y expositores nacionales e internacionales, procedentes de más de 65 países y de 25 estados brasileños.

Dicha vocación, con miras al comercio internacional, ha proporcionado un dinamismo particular al evento, que hoy día ocupa la tercera posición de importancia entre las ferias mundiales del sector. Para que se pueda tener una idea de dicha dimensión, solamente es necesario decir que, en su última edición, asistieron a la feria visitantes de más de 65 países.

Otra característica remarcada es la participación cada vez más interesada de empresarios y profesionales de otros estados brasileños, lo que muestra una relevante fuerza de atracción para el giro de los negocios en el mercado interior.

Es la feria una verdadera vitrina de la industria brasileña y mundial de rocas ornamentales, además de agregar una amplia gama de productos y servicios que forman parte de la cadena productiva de la construcción civil, arquitectura y decoración, desarrollo de tecnología, logística y comercio exterior, organismos de fomento y apoyo a la actividad.
